Musk quits mansion for prefab box home

One thing that's not bigger in Texas: Elon Musk's new home.

The Tesla CEO has listed his last remaining California home for sale by owner with an asking price of $37.5 million. And his new digs in the Lone Star State are about as far as you can get from the nine-bedroom, 12,380-square-foot, century-old mansion with a pool, a ballroom, an eight-bay carport and views of San Francisco Bay.

Musk, one of the world's richest people, is now living in the remote coastal area outside Brownsville, Texas, where another one of his companies, SpaceX, is making and launching spaceships. Teslarati reported last week that he has downsized to a Boxabl Casita, a 400-square-foot prefabricated rectangle made of steel and concrete. It costs about $50,000 — less than a base Model S — and its manufacturer posted a video clip showing one of the structures being towed by a Model X.
