Florida man makes his own Smart kitchen

At less than 9 feet long and a little more than 5 feet wide, a Smart ForTwo isn't much bigger than a typical kitchen table.

A Florida man demonstrated that while battening down the hatches for Hurricane Dorian last week, the Associated Press reported . Patrick Eldridge drove his Smart car through the patio doors of his Jacksonville home so it could ride out the storm in the kitchen.

Eldridge's wife, Jessica, posted photos of the car inside the house on Facebook, saying Patrick was afraid it would blow away and that it wouldn't fit in the garage because her car was already parked there.

"I said there was no way he could. He said he could," she told the AP. "So he opened the double doors and had it in. I was amazed that it could fit. He had it in with no problems."

Dorian ended up turning north instead of making landfall in Florida. Jessica Eldridge later posted a video , set to circus music, of her husband driving the car back outside on his 35th birthday. It fit through the doorway even without folding in the mirrors.
