A brave new world

A brave new world

In March 2015, when Wired magazine launched its interactive and highly retooled online experience, Editor-in-Chief Scott Dadich told readers the site wasn't designed to be perfect; it was designed to be perfected.

To build on that theme, the new Automotive News online presence might not be perfect, but its timing is.

Like many other news organizations -- but unlike any time in our 90-plus years -- we are diligently working to perfect a model of digital, video and print journalism that does one simple thing: It serves you.

The good news is that Automotive News is growing, investing and listening -- which leads us to the new autonews.com .

We used online surveys, in-person focus groups with new and longtime subscribers, and one-on-one testing sessions for feedback to help us shape the new design of autonews.com .

The result is a website with a number of major improvements delivered by a team of talented and dedicated people. Among the changes:

The site is now responsive, which means you get the same experience no matter where you log in. It looks as good on your smartphone as it does on your desktop, laptop or tablet. Switching among those devices is seamless.

The design is sleeker and more intuitive; there is more white space, a wider presentation and a modern look and feel.

The navigation is streamlined, and we've added more emphasis to our popular "News by Brand" category so you can quickly find the latest news on the companies you care about most.

Our search engine is rebuilt, so it's now easier to find news about specific topics and people.

We've included more-prominent graphics and photos and grouped those with related content.

We will cover big topics -- NADA, auto shows, award-winning enterprise reporting -- in newly curated, grouped areas of the site.

At a glance, our "What's New" bar at the top of every page will help you keep up with the news you need.

In all, it's a powerful Web presence to match our powerful group of reporters and editors.

The online upgrade is just the latest in a long list of growth priorities at Automotive News . Within the last year we've added a bureau in Dallas, launched Automotive News Canada and Fixed Ops Journal and created a Leading Women Network.

Now we are proud of the launch of a new online platform.

All of these changes have been made with you in mind. The good news: When it comes to content, nothing changes. Automotive News is here to fulfill one purpose: Serve the reader.

So please tell us what you think.

Visit autonews.com/redesign to watch a video tutorial of the new site, learn more about the improvements and see how we've changed through the years.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we've relished the opportunity to build it.
