1st glimpse shows Bentley toned down crossover's looks

Bentley has released a teaser image of its upcoming crossover, which it says will go on sale in 2016.

The image shows a more traditional front fascia than the one on the concept vehicle Bentley showed in 2012. The front end takes its cues directly from the Bentley Continental GT and Flying Spur.

The grille is a bit more upright than the grille of the concept, but it retains sharp corners that lead to a smooth hood.

The concept Bentley showed was the 2012 EXP 9, which received a lukewarm reception generated by a polarizing exterior design. The EXP 9 featured large, round headlights positioned at the corners of the front fascia, flanked by mesh inlets sitting next to a large horizontal mesh grille. The concept also had large auxiliary lights under the headlights with LED rings.

The automaker has said it plans to build about 3,000 units annually of the crossover, whose name has not been announced. Pricing will start at $190,000, and a hybrid will be offered in 2017.
